Nursing majors at Georgia Southern combine extensive practice in state-of-the-art simulation labs with on-the-ground experience with real patients. In addition to core requirements in the natural sciences, math and technology, your classes include work in anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing practice and more. In addition, coursework focuses on adults, women and children, mental health and community nursing.
All nursing students must complete a practicum as well as a capstone project before graduating. When you do, you qualify to sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

Admission Criteria
Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program is competitive and is based on requirements in place at the time of application to the BSN program. In order to be considered for the BSN program for the fall/spring admission cycle, applicants must meet the following admission criteria:
- Admission to 糖心Vlog. All transfer credits must be evaluated by the Registrar鈥檚 office and posted on the Georgia Southern transcript upon official acceptance to the University.
- Must be able to meet the .
- Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 at the time of application and upon admission into the nursing program.
- Achieve a cumulative score of at least 75% on the Evolve Reach Admission Assessment Exam from the following subject areas: Anatomy & Physiology, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, and Math. Admission Assessment scores must be no older than one year at the time of applications.
- Complete 12 of the 20 hours of required lab science course work (Core IMPACTS Lab Science Sequence, Microbiology, and Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with Labs) with a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥 in both lab and didactic portions of each course at the time of application to the nursing program.
- Successful completion of 54 semester hours in appropriate core courses prior to admission.
- Sciences in Field of Study must have been completed within the past 5 years with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or higher.
- A grade of 鈥淐鈥 or higher is required for the following Core IMPACTS: Communications in Writing, Mathematics and Quantitative Skills, Technology, Mathematics and Sciences, and Field of Study Courses.
- Post Baccalaureate students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on grades earned in Statistics, Anatomy and Physiology I & II with labs, Microbiology, Pathophysiology and Lifespan Development to be eligible to apply to the program.
- Students admitted to the nursing major must maintain a minimum overall 3.0 GPA and a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥 in the following Core IMPACTS: Communications in Writing, Mathematics and Quantitative Skills, Technology, Mathematics and Sciences, and Field of Study Courses prior to beginning the first nursing course.
- Students with outstanding admission requirements must provide proof of meeting the requirements to the School of Nursing administrative assistant before the beginning of the admitted semester. Failure to do so will result in removal from the admitted list.
- Students who are dismissed from any nursing program due to course failures may be considered for admission to Georgia Southern鈥檚 nursing program after a period of five years.
- Repeating more than one course (didactic) or repeating once course (didactic) more than once in the following Core IMPACTS: Communications in Writing, Mathematics and Quantitative Skills, Technology, Mathematics and Sciences, and Field of Study Courses (thus 2 failures in one area) to earn a passing grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, makes the student ineligible for admission. For the post baccalaureate student, this applies to the Field of Study.

Secondary Admission
This program requires secondary admission. This means that you can be admitted to the University but will have to apply to the specific program as well. Each program has different admission criteria, and you should refer to the program website or speak with your academic advisor at SOAR to learn more. If you choose one of these programs on your undergraduate application for admission, you will initially be assigned a different major with closely matched coursework.
*Students please take note: KINS 2533 Pathophysiology is listed as an Area F course which is required to be completed or in progress at the time of application/acceptance.

Transfer Student Information
Transfer applicants and applicants with degrees in other disciplines must meet the criteria for admission to the nursing major. Credit for transfer courses will be granted if course equivalency is determined. Faculty make course equivalency decisions based on a review of materials provided by the transfer student, including course syllabi, a course description and content outline.

Requirements Prior to Enrollment in Nursing Courses
- Maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Earned a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better in Area A, D and F courses.
- Meet School of Nursing clinical course requirements, including: (a) health history and physical examination; (b) essential performance standards for nursing practice; (c) immunization requirements including measles, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, Tdap and seasonal flu; (d) tuberculosis screening; (e) current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification; and (g) personal health insurance.

All courses for the nursing program must be completed within a total of three consecutive calendar years. All prelicensure nursing students are required to take two standardized exit examinations.
Applicants to the BSN program must apply to Georgia Southern first and then the . Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the nursing program.
