Peer Leaders

Inspire. Mentor. Lead.

At Georgia Southern, we believe that students learn best from each other. That’s why Peer Leaders play a vital role in supporting and mentoring incoming first-year students as they transition to college life. As a Peer Leader, you’ll serve as a role model, provide guidance in and out of the classroom, and help first-year students feel at home at Georgia Southern.

This is more than just a leadership role—it’s an opportunity to develop valuable skills, build connections, and make a lasting impact on your peers and the university community.

As a Peer Leader, you will:

  • Build meaningful relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Make a difference by supporting first-year students as they adjust to college life.

Positions are available on both the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses.

What Peer Leaders Do

Peer Leaders are expected to:

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment for first-year students.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource, helping students navigate academic and social life.
  • Promote a positive and respectful community inside and outside the classroom.
  • Guide students to campus resources that support their academic and personal goals.
  • Support FYE 1220 instructors by actively engaging in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete Peer Leader training to prepare for the role.
  • Stay in regular contact with assigned students to offer guidance and support.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources based on their needs.
  • Assist in program planning for student engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with FYE 1220 instructors, meeting at least once before the semester begins and maintaining regular check-ins.
  • Attend all FYE 1220 class sessions to support students and instructors.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Earn at least a B in FYE 1220.
  • Have a clear judicial record.
  • Be committed to supporting and mentoring first-year students.

  2. Submit the required approval form to verify a clear judicial record with the Dean of Students office.
